Second Impact Hiring Innovation Lab Cohort Kicks Off in New Orleans

HR, operations, and corporate social responsibility leaders from Caterpillar (and two of their dealerships: Alban and Blanchard), Dave’s Killer Bread, Entergy, Tyson, and Patagonia met in New Orleans last month for the kick-off of the Impact Hiring Initiative’s Innovation Lab—a program designed and led by FSG and supported by the Rockefeller Foundation and Walmart. This is the second cohort of companies to participate in the Innovation Lab.

These leaders gathered with a commitment to bring impact hiring—practices that create business advantage through hiring and development of individuals who face barriers to economic opportunity—to their companies.

Throughout the 3-day convening, participants explored best practices around hiring, retention, and advancement. They also learned about integrating systems change and design thinking principles into their pilot project. Participants were able to learn from their peers at other companies and connected with youth and adults who face barriers to employment for a number of reasons (such as placement in foster care, experience with homelessness, or previous incarceration). We are grateful for the partnership of Youthforce NOLA, EMPLOY, Odyssey House Louisiana, Youth Empowerment Program (YEP), 1881 Institute, Café Reconcile, STRIVE NOLA, Delgado Community College in helping us bring these participants and their voices into this conversation.

We look forward to sharing best practices from the participants in this cohort along and with those in the inaugural cohort, after both groups gather at a convening early next year.
