Alex Caldwell

Alex joins FSG as a practiced convener, strategic planner, program evaluator, and health policy expert. As an associate director, Alex leverages her expertise in behavioral health, children and youth, and health equity. She works closely with her clients to craft strategies that create lasting, meaningful social impact in partnership with community leaders.

Before FSG

Most recently, Alex led teams of researchers and consultants at the Colorado Health Institute, a nonpartisan health policy research firm in Denver. At CHI, she conducted needs assessments, strategic planning processes, grant programs, and evaluations in close partnership with government, philanthropic, and community leaders. As the behavioral health research lead, Alex leveraged her expertise in substance use disorders, early childhood, criminal justice, and prevention science to improve the health of Coloradans. For example, Alex led the development of Colorado’s first statewide needs assessment and subsequent strategic plan for primary prevention of substance use disorders. She also crafted a spending strategy for state and local policymakers to address the state’s opioid epidemic.

Alex brings a rich background in health and education research and analysis. Her experience includes teaching ninth-grade science with Teach for America at New Orleans Charter Science & Math High School and supporting strategic operations for Beyond 12, a national nonprofit aiming to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students graduating from college. She also designed performance measurement frameworks at the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in Geneva, Switzerland, to measure the impact of the fund’s $4 billion annual disbursements to programs around the world.
