Maimuna Gassama

Maimuna joins FSG with a background in international development and conflict management, with particular interests in economic development, social mobility, and global mental health. She is passionate about advancing equity and developing sustainable impact that centers affected communities. Maimuna believes that the best solutions put people first. As a consultant, Maimuna conducts stakeholder interviews, performs secondary research, and works alongside case team members to develop client-customized strategic recommendations to address social inequities.

Before FSG

Prior to FSG, Maimuna worked for the Kaizen Companyan international development consulting firm. At Kaizen, she supported the general management of USAID-funded projects in Jordan and Uganda related to monitoring, learning and evaluation, and organizational development. Before working at Kaizen, Maimuna worked for the International Rescue Committee (IRC) as a Protection Focal Point, where she supported IRC’s efforts to resettle Afghan evacuees. Maimuna’s professional experience also includes being a graduate student consultant with the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) Women Lead Practicum. To determine strategies that promote women’s political competitiveness in post-conflict Sri Lanka, Maimuna worked with a dynamic team to design a research plan that included surveys, focus group discussions, and in-depth interview guides. To ensure the research would have a lasting impact, she presented data-based insights on the findings in the form of a Sri Lanka-specific best practice framework. Maimuna has also worked for the Johns Hopkins (SAIS) African Studies Department, the Center for Strategic Studies in Jordan, and Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.
