Based on learnings from working with eight solution providers, FSG has documented best practices, tools, and resources for ABL solution providers. This includes best practices to scale profitably, assess the quality of implementation, and shape parent demand for ABL in APSs.
Tools and Resources to Serve the APS Market
- FSG’s support to solution providers has involved developing a pricing strategy, performing break-even modeling, and assisting with efforts around lead generation, sales force effectiveness, owner engagement, parent engagement, and monitoring practices. - FSG developed ‘Scoring Tool for Assessing Readiness at School’ (STARS) to comprehensively assess education in preschool classrooms in India. The tool tracks classroom and stakeholder (administrators, parents, and teachers) transformation along with traditional learning outcomes. STARS leverages existing tools: Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale 3 (ECERS 3) for classroom environment, International Development and Early Learning Assessment (IDELA), and School Readiness Index (SRI) for learning outcomes. FSG selected and adapted Save the Children’s International Development and Early Learning Assessment (IDELA) tool to measure early learning outcomes for children in India. In consultation with experts, FSG added questions to IDELA to make it contextually better aligned for the Indian APS market. FSG has developed ‘Right’ markers that parents can use to test their child’s conceptual understanding (e.g., asking the child to pick out 12 objects from a stack of 20), as opposed to testing their child’s ability to rote memorize (e.g., asking the child to recite numbers up to 50). This helps parents assess true learning and build demand for ABL. Learn more about Educating Parents on Quality Learning using markers to test concepts >
FSG has developed a set of videos for parents of 5-7 year olds to educate them about their child’s current poor learning outcomes, enable them to assess their child’s learning outcomes, and help them engage in simple activities with their children at home. FSG has developed the concept of ‘Toys in a Box’, which is a kit containing a set of developmentally appropriate and engaging toys. The kit helps to improve key skills among children (e.g., executive function, problem solving) while engaging them in fun activities. It also helps to improve parent engagement at home.
