Discovering better ways to solve social problems

What is Catalytic Philanthropy?

The Four Practices of Catalytic Philanthropy

Catalytic Philanthropists:

  1. Take responsibility for achieving results going beyond thinking about which organizations to support and instead thinking about how to solve a social problem (see Creating Value, Do More Than Give, chapter 1)
  2. Mobilize a campaign for change, empowering stakeholders and creating the conditions for collaboration and innovation (see Leading Boldly and Collective Impact)
  3. Use all available tools to create change, including unconventional ones from outside the nonprofit sector; (see Compounding Impact, Raising Money while Raising Hell, Lobbying for Good, Best in Class) and
  4. Create actionable knowledge to improve their own effectiveness and to influence the behavior of others. (see From Insight to Action)
