The Travels of a T-shirt in the Global Economy by Pietra Rivoli

The author, Pietra Rivoli, follows the life span of a t-shirt, from cotton seed in Texas (enter Monsanto and genetically modified seed) to the Mitumba used clothing market in Tanzania. In between she covers a number of hot-button political or world trade issues, including farm subsidies in the U.S. and the “race to the bottom” for cheap labor in the developing countries of Latin America and Asia. It’s an excellent book, told in a compelling and objective narrative fashion.
