Overview

John comes to FSG with significant experience in consulting, nonprofit management, and community development. Like all FSG consultants, he is passionate about driving social impact, with a particular focus on improving education strategies and advancing catalytic philanthropy.

Role at FSG

John is currently working on a strategic planning project for an inner-city boarding school on the East Coast looking to strengthen its programmatic model and improve its financial sustainability. He is also helping to lead the firm’s efforts to build up knowledge and experience in the emergent field of blended learning. Much of his time has been spent within FSG’s Education & Youth impact area, but he has also worked with teams to shape shared value initiatives and is looking forward to contributing more heavily in the areas of collective impact and catalytic philanthropy and to firm development as a whole.

Before FSG

In the late 1990’s, John played an important role in launching the Dorchester Educational Enrichment Program, an after-school educational services provider for inner-city middle school children in Boston. There he used his program development, leadership, and communications skills to direct and expand the organization. He has also worked for the National Center on Time & Learning, building unique expertise in the burgeoning field of technology-enabled adaptive instruction and related academic models. While enrolled in business school, John developed an array of consulting experiences, including a community outreach project for Washington, D.C. Public Schools, financial sustainability planning for a youth development organization in Johannesburg, competition landscaping for a payments services company in Atlanta, and organizational restructuring for a residential program for recovering substance abusers in Durham, North Carolina.

On Working at FSG

"People and organizations have attempted to catalyze positive social change for millennia, but FSG does this in a holistic, data-rich, and laser-focused manner that, quite possibly, has never been seen before. The firm never loses sight of its mission—to discover better ways to solve social problems—and is unafraid to take risks or tackle seemingly impossible challenges in order to execute on this charge. The team of consultants here has truly made a difference to countless individuals across the globe. I am excited and humbled to be a part of this team and to contribute to the consulting work and thought leadership which enable FSG to change the world."
